“Unlike the traditional piano trio for violin, cello and piano, Weber wrote this trio specifically with the flute sonority in mind. In this instance we chose to substitute the cello part for the bassoon. A rare and satisfying combination in which each instrument has an equally important and expressive role to play. This trio is a substantial work, arguably one of Weber’s best chamber works.”
