Season 1 Children’s Concert: Peter and the Wolf
For our first concert this year the BSO is excited to perform a lighter, family themed concert featuring the much-loved children’s favourite, Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf.
Peter and the Wolf has been described as a “symphonic fairy tale for children” where the story is read by the narrator and “illustrated” by the orchestra. The piece was first debuted at a children’s concert at the Moscow Conservatory in 1936 and it has become not only Prokofiev’s most frequently performed work but one of the most frequently performed works in the entire classical repertoire.
The orchestra will also be performing some well know songs from Gilbert and Sullivan’s light-hearted and popular comic opera ‘The Pirates of Penzance’ and music from ‘The Pineapple Poll Suite’, another Gilbert and Sullivan inspired comic ballet.
